The Idea Behind Power Pack Organics

With our oldest child heading to college, my husband and I decided to lead a group at our church to send care packages to the young people heading to college and into military service. At the same time, I told my husband that I needed a job or a puppy for when the children went back to school. Naturally, my husband was more interested in me finding a job. Working on the care package project birthed the idea to start a care package business.

I quickly discovered a gap in the market for "healthy" options. Many products claimed to be healthy, but their boxes were filled with cheap snacks that had no nutritional value and contained bioengineered ingredients. I did find some healthy options, but they were often boring and overly nutritious for the average young person.

The Journey Begins

As I embarked on this journey to create a business, it felt overwhelming. I had to think about the business name, logo, boxes, products, website, accounting, and so much more. I felt extremely stressed and didn't even know where to start. It was during worship at church that the Holy Spirit redirected my goals and thoughts. The phrase "do everything for the glory of God" popped into my head. I realized I would have told my children the same thing if they were struggling with direction.

When the worship music ended, I looked up the verse in my Bible app.

1 Corinthians 10:31

"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

I had no idea that the verse started with talking about "eating and drinking!" How perfect that I was thinking about providing a healthy care package option, and it talks about food at the start of the verse that would give me direction.

A Shift in Perspective

Instead of focusing on making money from this venture, I needed to focus on giving glory to God through helping others make better choices with their snack options. As my focus shifted from making money to providing a healthy service, I began to chip away at the mountain of tasks ahead of me. The name process started, and then the logo journey began.

I found a box company, curated different box offerings, taste-tested with family and friends, discovered accounting software, and created a website. While my change of thought direction has not eliminated the stress of everything, I am hopeful that these boxes will be a great way for families to provide support, especially to college students who might be missing home. Along with that, I want to give them an option for a healthier snack than hitting up the vending machine at 11 p.m.

Taking Care of Ourselves

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

This verse highlights the idea that we should take care of ourselves as a way to respect the divine presence within us. It is no secret that the Standard American Diet (SAD) lacks nutrition and is filled with overly processed "food" and chemicals. This is a discussion for another time. The important takeaway is that we have one body, and we need to take care of it—not only for our health but to honor God.

Power Pack Organics is striving to fill the gap between fun and health. Our box offerings won't help you lose weight, but they will cut out genetically modified ingredients (GMOs), artificial dyes, artificial colors, and unknown chemicals. Most of our snack products are labeled organic, and at the very least, they are labeled non-GMO.

Facing New Challenges

The new stress is advertising and selling boxes. During this waiting time, I will admit that I have questioned this business venture. However, my prayer is that I can stay focused on providing a quality product that allows families to have an easy way to provide support and thoughtfulness to their loved ones.

Ultimately, I want to provide healthy options, including allergen-friendly boxes, to help others. Hopefully, the byproduct will be some extra income for my family. Service above self is my motto.
